Canyamel Golf, Majorca

By Michel Monnard

What we like at Canyamel Golf, is the consistently good quality of the course during the whole year. In the last few years, the owners have improved the clubhouse massively, the added lots of trees (not that golfers really need them, as they tend to make our matters more difficult), and just next to the golf course, the brand new Hyatt Park Hotel will be opening in 2016. This will probably be the landmark of hotel quality on the whole island.

The first six holes are never even, always either upwards or downwards. The holes are quite interesting to play, as their are many surprises. The greens are surprisingly difficult, due to speed and trickiness. What makes them nice to play is that the greens are soft, so the balls tend to hold on the green. Should you hit the wrong spot on the green, three-putting is a good achievement.

The last nine holes are pretty straight forward. Lots of new trees have been added. When we came to the island, 20 years ago, there where not half of the trees. The bunkers are awesome quality throughout. The sand is bigger in size, that drains water very easily. If you know how to use the bounce of your sand wedge, getting out of them should not be a problem. Getting the ball close, is an entirely different story – depending on the flag position.

The clubhouse is brand new, all in white, lots of quality and style. Food is great in quality and presentation.

An in all, there is an awesome day of golf up for you at Canyamel Golf.
